Our Mission
To build a powerful, inclusive movement of courageous leaders with the competencies, mindset, drive and relationships necessary to create transformational change.
Our Vision
Connecticut is stronger and more equitable as a result of effective leaders contributing their unique strengths and working together to solve complex social problems.
Our Values
Promoting Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB)
We believe all people, especially those who have been historically marginalized, have unique talents to share. We challenge the status quo so that all can participate and reach their full potential
Establishing a Continuous Learning Culture
We learn by doing, embody a growth mindset, are open to feedback and embrace new and different ideas.
Cultivating Trust Based Relationships
We are honest and open in our communication and accountable for our impact even more than our intent. We listen to understand, practice empathy and commit to continual growth.
Embracing Change
We recognize environments are ever-changing and that answers are often-times unknown. We are agile, stay flexible and thoughtfully pivot to respond to new circumstances.
Guided by Humility
We lead without pride or arrogance and are more effective leaders as a result of practice. We continue to learn, evolve and grow.
Develop and Connect leaders
Organizing for equity, especially racial equity
-
Talent is equally distributed. Opportunity is not.
-
Connecticut leaders, especially leaders of color and those from underrepresented groups, need more opportunities to learn, grow and lead.
-
We will combine the energy of leaders from all sectors – public, private, non-profit and civic – and work together to achieve equity and justice.
-
There is no simple answer. In order to address complex social challenges Connecticut’s leaders must innovate, experiment together, and discover new paths forward.
-
Now, it is even more apparent than ever, that brave leaders need support to act boldly.
Definition of Equity (source: PolicyLink)
Just and fair inclusion into a society in which all can participate, prosper, and reach their full potential.
The solutions to the nation’s challenges lie with those closest to these challenges: when the wisdom, voice, and experience of those traditionally absent from policymaking drive the process, profound policy transformations emerge.
Five Frogs develops and supports brave leaders who will be bold, lending their wisdom, voice and experience to make Connecticut equitable.
Our Name
Why Five Frogs? This riddle gets at the heart of how we think about leadership:
Q: Five frogs are sitting on a log. Three decide to jump. How many are left?
A: Five. The frogs only decided to jump, they didn’t actually jump.
This riddle is about action. Leaders act. We leap, we learn, we leap again.
Using a riddle as inspiration for our name is also a reminder that, while we are very serious about our mission and vision, we do not take ourselves too seriously. Humor, humility and optimism are central to the way we lead.
I am proud to be part of a group that is working to grow the impact of Connecticut leaders and organizations. As more colleagues join the Five Frogs network and lead change, we have the potential to create a cascading effect that will change many lives.
