Registration is limited to 20 people. \nFeatured Leader: Gemeem Davis\, Vice President and Co-Director\, Bridgeport Generation Now \n \nPassionate about Democracy Gemeem Davis was born\, raised and educated in Bridgeport and became a member of Bridgeport Generation Now in 2017. She has served on its board since 2018 and is currently the Vice President and Co-Director of the organization. Bridgeport Generation Now uses the tools of community organizing to engage with the residents of Bridgeport to build a more just\, equitable and livable city. Key to that work is dismantling the dual systems of racism and corruption that have plagued the city for over four decades. Along with Gen Now’s President and Co-Director\, Callie Heilmann\, Gemeem has led the fight for more transparency in city government\, advocated for expanded voting rights and divestment of funds from the Bridgeport Police Department budget into education and social services. \nGemeem is also the President and Co-Director of Bridgeport Generation Now Votes\, the Pro-Democracy affiliate organization of Bridgeport Generation Now committed to increasing voter education and turnout in Bridgeport elections. The 2021 Unrig Bridgeport Coalition and Campaign To Fix Bridgeport’s Broken Democracy successfully lobbied the CT General Assembly to appoint an Election Monitor for the city of Bridgeport for two years.

Madeline graduated from Union College in 2014 with a degree in Psychology and from the UCONN School of Social Work in 2016 with a focus in Policy Practice. She is most proud of her work leading the Campaign for Paid Family Medical Leave. She started as an intern at CWEALF writing fact sheets about paid leave and five years later led the passage of one of the strongest paid leave laws in the country. When not at CWEALF\, you can find Madeline spending time with her nieces and nephews and soaking up the sun at the closest beach. “You learn to swim by swimming. You learn to be courageous by couraging” a quote by Marie Daly\, the first African-American woman to earn a Ph.D. in chemistry\, is a favorite of Madeline’s. Her years as a basketball player and watching her favorite Boston Celtics drives her goals to win for women at the State Capitol.

Humphreys Institute for Political Social Work \n \nTanya Rhodes-Smith leads the Institute’s Campaign School for Social Workers\, which has trained 2\,200+ students\, social workers and advocates from across the country to lead in politics; develops evaluated training models on civic engagement as a social work intervention; supports political participation and voter turnout in communities; and advocates for expanded voting rights and access.  In 2015\, she co-founded the National Social Work Voter Mobilization Campaign (“Voting is Social Work”)\, which works to integrate voter engagement into social work education and practice. \nTanya’s teaching experience includes Political Advocacy\, Political Social Work\, and Program Development and Evaluation. She has collaborated on numerous journal publications. She is a proud political social worker\, community advocate and campaign volunteer. SUMMARY:Peer Learning Cohort – White
DESCRIPTION:White Peer Learning Cohort  \nFive Frogs\, the organization building a powerful movement of diverse\, representative leaders working together for an equitable Connecticut\, invites White leaders to participate in a five-part series designed to support a cross-sector cohort in a process of education\, self-agitation\, and action towards racial equity. This program will deepen participants’ individual and collective understanding of race\, racism\, and racial equity within their personal lives and professional roles. The program will also explore key elements of self and social identity\, power\, privilege\, structural racism and oppression\, cycles of socialization\, and processes for transformation and change. Through curated resources\, engaging exercises\, and facilitated conversations participants will explore concepts and apply learnings from the series to their own lives\, work places\, and with other members of the cohort. In between sessions\, participants will complete a series of guided practice assignments. Participants should expect to spend 2-4 hours on these asynchronous practice assignments (completed outside of our meeting times). He is an effective facilitator\, educator\, writer\, and curriculum and program developer with extensive experience providing personal and professional development and coaching on issues of race\, identity\, power\, white supremacy culture\, equity\, inclusion\, restorative practices\, and anti-racism. He is a white\, queer\, progressive Christian committed to collective liberation who believes that honesty\, vulnerability\, laughter\, and human connection are the greatest gifts he has to offer the world.

Through facilitated conversations\, resources\, and self-directed activities we will build internal capacity for rest\, self-care\, and creative problem solving for those who find themselves working to disrupt cycles of harm while growing the conditions needed for a more equitable and just world. In between sessions\, participants will complete guided practice assignments. As the owner of Via Arts\, she uses play and theatre as a mechanism to dismantle institutional oppression and take up practices that move us closer to liberation. Most recently\, Kristianna has started the project Policy Through Play on Instagram and Facebook. Policy Through Play seeks to decode local politics and give the general public the tools they need to shift political practice towards a structurally care-centered world. Kristianna also uses her social media platforms to explore the intersection of Black Queer Motherhood and Pleasure\, asking\, “How do I hold freedom in a world that tries to keep it from me?” In her whole\, Kristianna practices generative conflict\, deep joy\, and radical dreaming.

DESCRIPTION:Five Frogs\, the organization building a powerful movement of diverse\, representative leaders working together for an equitable Connecticut\, invites you to participate in Brave\, Bold Leadership for a Better Connecticut Leader Convenings! Social impact leaders from across the nonprofit\, public and private sectors are invited to join to connect\, share ideas\, and challenge and support each other. These conversations focus on leading for equity and justice\, addressing organizational challenges and advancing innovative change. \nEach 75-minute convening is free of charge and will be moderated by a member of the Five Frogs board and network. A featured leader will share their insights to launch a dynamic group conversation. Leaders will have the opportunity for small group discussion.
